The painting depicts a girl sitting alone in a hallway in a vulnerable position, with no other subjects around her except for two bags that sit beside her. Having two bags instead of one implies there is another person who is not seen in the frame. The cooler colours around the subject suggested loneliness and isolation, while the warmer colours around the girl suggest hope. She is hopeful that someone will return.
Something that inspired me to explore this theme of longing and nostalgia was my relationship with my sister, something that I am always able to draw strong emotions from.
